WELCOME!

Thank you for visiting my web page.  I am the coordinator for categorical programs at Fairburn.  That means that I work with both the English Language Development and Gifted and Talented Programs.  I am enjoying my position and am learning something new every day.  I especially enjoy being able to go into the classrooms and work with the children on special programs, such as Literature Circles, performing arts, and Junior Great Books.

Title.

January, 2011

It's hard to embrace the fact that we are already in January of 2011.  But we are, and it is time to bring you up
to date with both our EL programs and classroom projects.

Our ELAC committee is up and running.  We meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 8:15 AM in the Multi-purpose Room.  Miren Ciganda-Apaoloza is our chairperson.  We discuss issues pertinent to the English Learners in our classrooms.  Intervention classes for our EL students are in the second week.  There are five classrooms, each organized by age and English Language Development level(s).  The classes are scheduled for one hour on Mondays and Thursdays.

In addition to coordinating the EL program at Fairburn, I also work with the students in grades 4 and 5 in language arts and performing arts.  Currently, the 4th graders are working on creative versions of "I Know An Old Lady."  We hope to upload these stories as soon as they are completed, which should be the second week of February.  The 5th graders are working on a play entitled "Bullies Anonymous."  We will present this play on Thursday, February 3rd, to all the students at Fairburn.  It is our hope that the material presented through the music and dialogue of this play will enlighten our students about the serious problem of bullying.  Parents are welcome to view our final rehearsal on Tuesday, February 1st, at 11:05 AM.
